RC3版Firefox 2.0版的发布对于Mozilla基金会尤为重要。Firefox浏览器一直以来都在蚕食IE浏览器的市场份额，其市场份额在10%到12%之间，IE浏览器的市场份额则高达82%。然而，从最近显示的数字来看，Firefox浏览器市场份额增长的速度已经缓慢了，这使用户对正式版Firefox 2.0的发布有所怀疑，怀疑它是否真的能够促进Firefox浏览器市场份额的大幅度增长。
