根据赛门铁克安全公司的统计数据，2006年下半年Mozilla公司的Firefox浏览器被批露的漏洞要比微软的IE浏览器少26％。
赛门铁克称去年8到12月份，Firefox有40个漏洞被揭示，而同期，IE有54个漏洞被批露。对整个2006年而言，两种浏览器表现相差不大，Firefox全年被发现的漏洞有87个，而IE则有92个。
Firefox下半年的漏洞比上半年减少了15％，而IE下半年的漏洞比上半年增加了42％。发展的趋势更倾向于看好Firefox。
而且，Mozilla的开发者修补漏洞的速度要比微软平均快5倍。Firefox处理26个试验漏洞，从发现漏洞到修补漏洞只用了两天。相比之下，微软处理15个试验漏洞却用了10天。
赛门铁克公司安全响应部门的主管Vincent Weafer说：“网页浏览器是最大的可开拓领域，它随着后台数据库的发展越来越重要，而网络应用软件也越来越受欢迎。”
最新的数据显示，IE占有浏览器市场份额的79.1％，Firefox排第二位，占14.2％。
