微软董事会主席比尔-盖茨周三接受美国广播公司采访时表示，安全问题是微软的首要任务。
盖茨表示，如果不解决安全问题，所有靠计算机承担的任务都会受到影响，企业不会将所有关键信息都放在计算机上，人们不会过多利用信用卡购物。
对于微软成为众矢之的，盖茨表示，微软创造了个人电脑产业，微软给计算产业带来了兼容机概念和很多软件，因此，微软要防止安全性阻碍发展进程。
有观点认为火狐浏览器超过了微软的IE，这导致微软加紧更新IE。盖茨表示，竞争是件好事，竞争是无所不在的，微软将与火狐浏览器争夺最佳浏览器地位，这包括性能和安全性。微软有一些很好的竞争对手，如Google、苹果电脑、免费软件等。
盖茨表示，自己最喜欢的微软文化是：每早醒来都会想到王安、Digital Equipment或康柏，这些大企业都曾经做得很出色，但是最终走进了死胡同。因此，微软总是要保持创新。人们付钱给微软不是因为软件，而是因为创新，总是要不断创造出让人们觉得值得购买的Windows或Office版本。
记者问盖茨是否应该为中国超过美国而担心，盖茨表示：“在经济领域，没人会超过别人，中国人受到了大学教育更多，生产出了廉价商品，但是这对美国消费者是件好事，这意味着美国企业要考虑对中国出口的问题，考虑与中国合作伙伴合作的问题，考虑自己的效率与全球领先者差距的问题。”他认为美国应该加强竞争力。
盖茨表示，微软最初的目标就是每张桌子上有一台电脑，现在已经很接近现实了，至少在富裕国家。
