据TGdaily的测试，IE 7 Beta 3和Firefox 1.5.4在第一次加载其主页时，内存占用都接近64MB，并且Firefox还稍微多一点。但当这两个浏览器最小化时，IE 7把大部分内存释放归还给系统；而Firefox则没有。在最小化状态下，Firefox仍然占到57MB的内存，而IE 7只有10MB。
当恢复最大化时，Firefox的内存占用量不变，而IE 7会在需要时把页面内容回调出来。当点击标签时，IE 7的内存占用量慢慢增加，但也保持少于31MB的状态，而此时打开的页面数跟最小化前一样。
其实可以通过设置把最小化时Firefox占用的内存归还给系统。
1. 在地址栏中输入：about：config
2. 在出现的新页面上点击鼠标右键，在弹出菜单中选择：新建－布尔变量
3. 在新建首选项名对话框中，输入：config.trim_on_minimize，并点击OK
4. 在输入布尔值对话框中，选择True并点击OK
